Texture is the most commonly used technique in web design. It often appears on designers own portfolio site, since it is a good way to tell potential clients how good their Photoshop skills are.  The advantage of using texture and some cut out photo is it could instantly make your site looks good, but you have to be careful not to lose the ultimate GOAL of the design. I have seen many designers start a design with clean, minimalism idea and end up with an almost grunge design with many textures.

Here I listed 20 well designed sites, their reasons to use the texture is clear and right on topic. The designers had carefully considered and arranged the textures so the design is coherent as a whole. These are some of the best learning examples.

Most popular textures used in web design include paper, wood, fabric and wall. To get more free textures please visit my post on 30+ free paper texture in resources section.
